The Energy Innovation Agency is actively looking for energy innovators, with near to market solutions, and commercial organisations, ready to decarbonise their buildings and operations, to participate in its funded programme, Energy Accelerator for Non-Domestic Buildings.
This exciting project is supporting businesses with low-carbon solutions, to scale their innovative products, and services, and is enabling large energy end-users in Greater Manchester (GM) to overcome their decarbonisation challenges through the implementation of innovative solutions which can measure and optimise energy use, improve energy efficiency, and integrate renewable energy technologies to help reduce carbon emissions.
Funded through the Innovation Accelerator Programme, the project will support up to 20 low-carbon demonstrator projects.
The benefits of the programme will be wide-ranging.
Innovators will benefit from reduced costs of deployment, with up to 50% of the project cost funded through the programme, as well as project design & management support; introduction and matching to a suitable GM end user; and data collection and project performance assessment which will deliver evidence required for commercialisation, scaling and investment.
Successful end users will receive the fully funded and project managed implementation of a resilient, sustainable and affordable energy system which is designed specifically around their own use case and challenges, providing a cost-effective way to validate solutions and build a business case for wider investment in decarbonising measures.
Predicted project solutions deployed through the programme include:
We want to overcome a key barrier for many start-ups in the initial deployment and refinement of their solution in real-world test cases. We also want to demonstrate to Greater Manchester businesses the cost and carbon-saving benefits the latest generation of low carbon energy solutions can deliver. Our Accelerator funding is aiming to deliver on both of these fronts and deliver exemplar installations that give confidence to more large-scale deployments.

The Energy Innovation Agency, a unique partnership between the public, private and academic sectors in GM, is tasked with accelerating carbon emission reductions in GM and transitioning the city-region to a carbon-neutral economy by 2038.
We are supporting energy innovators, with low-carbon solutions, to scale their innovative products, services, and businesses in GM, by connecting them with end-users and increasing deployment of decarbonising solutions.
The Innovation Accelerator Programme is a UK Government funded initiative which provides a total of £100m shared across the three regions, as well as support for developing each area’s innovation ecosystem.
Greater Manchester was asked to pilot the programme alongside the Glasgow City Region and the West Midlands.
The funding, awarded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), has been allocated to innovative projects in sectors where Greater Manchester has existing research strengths and will support 10 projects across the region of which the Energy Accelerator for Non-Domestic Buildings is one.
